Business Law is the body of law that governs business and commercial transactions. Therefore the course provides quality legal education to the students in the subject of Business Law. It gives the students the basic Knowledge about how to run a business in an ethical manner and follow the general principles while making a valid contract. Some contracts that are Special in nature like Indemnity, Guarantee and Agency are too been acquainted to them. Understanding some of the basic Acts like Partnership, Negotiable Instrument, Sale of goods, Consumer protection, Company law, Intellectual Property Rights and Competition Act is taught in order to widen the scope of the contracts in relation to business transaction. The Department of Business Law every year celebrates Constitution Day on 26th November , through various Competitions, Quiz and Guest lectures..
The course aims to give the students a broad understanding about various aspects of legal environment of business;
Dr. Monika Sawant is an Associate Professor in K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce. She has completed her LL.M and Ph.D in Law from the University of Mumbai on the Topic “Transgender’s Right to Health and Medical Health Coverage”. She has done a Diploma in Buddhism and Ambedkar’s thoughts from the University of Mumbai. She joined K J College of Arts and Commerce in the year 2009. She teaches courses like Business Law, Women and Law, Consumer Law and Intellectual Property Rights.
She firmly believes in Nichiren Buddhism and Chants Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo. Her favourite Gosho Line is " Human Revolution (inner transformation) means constantly turning our mind, our focus, in the direction of hope and progress."
She is Honest and sincere in her work and believes “Work has workshop” She has completed all her refresher courses, which were on Human Rights and Law. She has many national and international conference publications to her credit. She has worked as a coordinator for Women. Development Cell and conducted many Guest lectures and programmes for students on various Topics Like Gender sensitisation, Health and contemporary laws.

Business law Association was establish to give students better understanding of the subject Business law in Practical way. The Association will in future conduct many guest lectures, workshops , and field visits in consumer courts for the students from various streams. It will also conduct competition like Quiz ,Poster, Logo and Debates on the current topics. It will conduct lectures by eminent lawyers on the various legislations other than Business law.
