About NCC

NCC, National Cadet Corps as a voluntary organization was founded in India under an Act of Parliament on 15th July 1948. Over the years, NCC has spread its activities and values, across the length and breadth of the country; in school and colleges, in almost all the district of India. It has attracted millions of young boys and girls to the very ethos espoused by its motto, “Unity and Discipline” and molded them into disciplined and responsible citizens of the country. The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and universities all over India with an aim at character building and leadership, in all walks of life and promotes the spirits of patriotism and national integration. Towards this end, it runs a multifaceted training; varied in content, style and processes, with added emphasis on practical military training and outdoor community training.

NCC is a voluntary organization administered through the Ministry of Defense with its Headquarter situated in New Delhi, headed by an officer of the rank of Lieutenant General who is responsible for the smooth functioning of NCC throughout nation. The NCC unit of K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce is an Army wing and comes under 6 Maharashtra Battalion NCC Mumbai ‘A’ Group.

Aims of NCC

To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.

To create a human resource of organized trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life including the Armed Forces and be always available for the service of the nation.

Objectives of NCC

  • To fulfill the requirements expected in the latest socio-economic scenario in India.
  • To develop character, discipline, comradeship, secular outlook, ideals of selfless services and adventure spirits amongst large numbers of young citizens.
  • To create a pool of trained, organized and motivated youth with various leadership qualities in every walk of their life and serve the Nation irrespective of career they choose.
  • To provide a sound environment conducive towards motivating large numbers of young people of India to join armed forces.

Benefits of Joining NCC

  1. For NCC ‘C’ Certificate Holders specific vacancies in the Army, Air Force and Navy are allotted. For officers there is no UPSC written exams. After application, the cadet is called directly for SSB interview, which he/she has to clear before final selection as per the merit list. The following vacancies are reserved by each service as officers:
    • (a) Army- 100 seats per year at OTA for Men and 10% for Women.
    • (b) Navy- 06 seats per course.
    • (c) Air Force- 10% vacancies in all courses.
  2. 5-10% bonus marks for recruitment in ranks in Army, Navy and Air force
  3. Bonus marks for employment in CAPF/Para Military Forces and Department of Telecommunication.
  4. Can apply for gazetted post in CRPF if the cadet is a graduate.
  5. Preference in State Services and also in private sectors.
  6. Employment within NCC as Whole Time Lady Officer, Girl Cadet Instructor, Aero and Ship Modelling Instructor.
  7. In Air Force Academy 5% seats are reserved for Girl candidates holding NCC ‘C’ certificate.
  8. In OTA Chennai, seats are reserved for Girls candidates holding NCC ‘C’ certificate (Seats are notified every year).
  9. 5 bonus marks for Maharashtra Police Recruitment.
  10. Apart from above benefits, NCC develops qualities like character, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service among cadets.
  11. Under Autonomy College also offers NCC Studies as Elective subject instead of Foundation Course.

Associate NCC Officer

Lt. Dr. Sachin S. Narwade is the Associate NCC Officer of 6 Maharashtra Battalion NCC, K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce. He has joined K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce in 2010 as an Asst. Professor in the subject of English and served as CTO of NCC Unit from June 2016 till the completion of PRCN course scheduled from 8 Feb to 8 May 2021.

He is leading no 1 Company of 6 Maharashtra NCC (Army) Battalion with the strength of 100 NCC Cadets.

 

NCC Unit of K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce undertakes a number of training programs for NCC Cadets in collaboration with ARMY PI Staff from 6 Maharashtra Battalion NCC.
