About Department

The department of Environmental Studies was established in the year 1972. Earlier the subject was known as Commercial and Economic Geography, which was a compulsory subject for F. Y. B. Com class. The aim of introducing this subject was to make Commerce students aware about the relationship between the Geography, Environment and commercial activities.

K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Vidyavihar Mumbai is premiere academic Institution with autonomous status having introduced the CBCGS (Choice Based credit and Grading System) to cater the needs of the learner with a focus on learner centric curriculum. Curriculum is revised after every three years after obtaining the inputs from the alumni, industrial experts, subject experts and the teachers. In tune with the University of Mumbai's curricular structure, UGC guidelines and NAAC expectations regular designing and development of quality- based curriculum with local, regional, national and international relevance leading to excellence. The revision of the elective , core, ability enhancement and the interdisciplinary courses in under graduate as well as as post graduate program is undertaken after every three years. CBCGS with its rich and varied palette of courses opens up newer avenues of learning beyond the opted discipline across the departments.

Activities

The Association for Environmental Awareness (AEA) was started in the year 2000 by Late Prof. Shubha Verma (Former HOD & faculty). The objectives of the association are to create awareness about various Environmental Issues of Local, National and International importance. And to create a sense of responsibility towards making environment sustainable and widening the scope of learning. Also, to explore new avenues of job opportunities in the field of Environment.
