About Department

The Department of Gujarati is working since 1960 in the college. The Department aims to grow the importance of Language and culture of Gujarat in both Gujarati & non-Gujarati students. Department has given professional platform to many students while studying and after completion of graduation students has also joined professional field i.e. Commercial theatre, Journalism & Media portals.

Department of Gujarati celebrates many days and cultural events also. We Celebrate here Gujarat & Maharashtra Day, Vishwa Gujarati Matrubhasha Din, Matrubhasha Din, Patangotsav (Kite Festival) etc. Also students of department joins many Intercollegiate, National & International competition. Department also organizes different competitions, Seminar, Workshop and field trips too. Department also tries to teach gujarati to non-gujarati people and good response is also there.

Department has separate room where students can study, read and also can do research work. In the department we have prominent faculty members. We have a rich tradition of Faculties, from Jyotindra Dave to Deepak Mehta, whose contributions to Gujarati Literature continue to this day.

K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Vidyavihar Mumbai is premiere academic Institution with autonomous status having introduced the CBCGS (Choice Based Credit and Grading System) to cater the needs of the learner with a focus on learner centric curriculum. Curriculum is revised after every three years after obtaining the inputs from the alumni, industrial experts, subject experts and the teachers. In tune with the University of Mumbai's curricular structure, UGC guidelines and NAAC expectations regular designing and development of quality- based curriculum with local, regional, national and international relevance leading to excellence. The revision of the elective , core, ability enhancement and the interdisciplinary courses in under graduate as well as as post graduate program is undertaken after every three years. CBCGS with its rich and varied palette of courses opens up newer avenues of learning beyond the opted discipline across the departments.

Department of Gujarati does different activities during whole Academic Year through the medium of GSM. Department organizes Various Activities like Competitions, Workshops, Seminar, Movie Screening, Social Activities, interview, talk show etc. Through Different activities Students get to learn many things like management, literature, Social behavior & Responsibilities, Technology etc.
