About Department

History is the unending dialogue between the past and the present. It is a systematic narrative of the evolution of human civilization from the earliest of times to the present. It is the inquiry not only in the political realm of the earlier societies but also their social, cultural, administrative and economic aspects.Department aims to familiarize students with regional, national and international history.Its objective has been to create awareness about Indian History & Culture. The subject of history stands for the exploration of our rich heritage. It unfolds the beauty of human progress through the ages. History offers the lessons to each succeeding generation through the records of the ideologies, struggles, achievements. Through the pages of history the stories of the heroes and battles are kept alive in the public memory. The Department offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.

K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Vidyavihar Mumbai is premiere academic Institution with autonomous status having introduced the CBCGS (Choice Based Credit and Grading System) to cater the needs of the learner with a focus on learner centric curriculum. Curriculum is revised after every three years after obtaining the inputs from the alumni, industrial experts, subject experts and the teachers. In tune with the University of Mumbai's curricular structure, UGC guidelines and NAAC expectations regular designing and development of quality- based curriculum with local, regional, national and international relevance leading to excellence. The revision of the elective , core, ability enhancement and the interdisciplinary courses in under graduate as well as as post graduate program is undertaken after every three years. CBCGS with its rich and varied palette of courses opens up newer avenues of learning beyond the opted discipline across the departments.

The Department organises various co-curricular activities through History Association. The association provides platform for the discussion on the historical themes. It conducts various activities like Poster Competition, Career Guidance Programme and Study Tours etc.
