About Department

A Bachelor of Arts program in Political Science comprises a serious study of Political Science not only as an important branch of social science but equally important as a practical science with theory. The base of theory with empirical reality which studies a number of institutions. It encompasses all the issues of politics -from Maharashtra to Political theory and then International Politics etc. The study of Political Science is designed by keeping Indian reality as a focus. The multidisciplinary approach has been used to comprehend knowledge of the subject from a philosophical, economic, sociological and cultural perspective. The Department endeavours to promote the intellectual transformation of the students and prepare them to contribute to the nation-building process through social justice and public service by becoming a citizen and good leaders.

Syllabus

K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Vidyavihar Mumbai is premiere academic Institution with autonomous status having introduced the CBCGS (Choice Based Credit and Grading System) to cater the needs of the learner with a focus on learner centric curriculum. Curriculum is revised after every three years after obtaining the inputs from the alumni, industrial experts, subject experts and the teachers. In tune with the University of Mumbai's curricular structure, UGC guidelines and NAAC expectations regular designing and development of quality- based curriculum with local, regional, national and international relevance leading to excellence. The revision of the elective , core, ability enhancement and the interdisciplinary courses in under graduate as well as as post graduate program is undertaken after every three years. CBCGS with its rich and varied palette of courses opens up newer avenues of learning beyond the opted discipline across the departments.

Activities

The Department of Political Science organizes various co-curricular, extra-curricular activities through the Association of Political Science. The association provides a platform for discussion and debates on political /social happenings in the country and on the world stage. It conducts various activities like speeches and special lectures by eminent people on the issues related to and around politics from local, national, and international levels. Mock Parliament, Study visits etc. also actively participated by students of all streams. It also holds unusually different competitions such as Poetry Recitation, Elocution and Role-play.
