The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension [DLLE] (known earlier as Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension) established on October 12, in the Year 1978 and has been recognized as a statutory Department of the University of Mumbai since 1994 to promote a meaningful and sustained rapport between the Universities and the community. The DLLE seeks to facilitate the sensitization of students to socio-cultural realities. Degree College Students take up extension work projects related to social issues, for which they are awarded 10 additional marks in their final examinations on successful completion of 120/240 hours of work, and the submission of the project report in time.
The DLLE offers flexible Continuing Education opportunities for the people. K.J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce has started DLLE from Academic Year 2019 – 2020.
K. J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce offers five projects of DLLE for learners of degree college, namely Annapurna Yojana (APY), Industry Orientation Project (IOP), Population Education Club ( PEC), Survey of Women’s Status ( SWS) and Career Project (CP). Students who enroll for these extension work projects perform various activities for social awareness based on various issues/problem in the society such as Green City Clean City, Global Warming, Stay Safe Stay Healthy, Harmful effects of drinking, Child Labour, Importance of literacy etc. Students are creating awareness about these social problems through various activities like Creative Writing, Street Play, Poster Making, Survey, ,etc.

The industry orientation project is a vocational/ career oriented program for empowering students with marketable work skills so as to increase his/her employability. This project helps to bridge the gap between the industry academia link. They get an idea about actual work environment which in turn helps them to get employment in the long run.
In this project, student will collect basic data about the status of women in the area of work. The students will prepare questionnaire under the guidance of extension teachers and will survey 40 - 50 women. A basic questionnaire is provided by the University of Mumbai. The students will collect and tabulate the data. They will analyse and interpret the data. They also create awareness about various aspects like hygiene voting rights etc, while they conduct survey
In this project the students reach the unreached and spread awareness about various social issues like Child Marriage, HIV AIDS, Evils of smoking and drinking, Clean City Green City etc. They also educate the society on other aspects like saving, investments etc.
In this project the student will learn the entrepreneurship skills which helps in improving his/her communication skills and confidence. Annapoorna enhances the entrepreneurial skills of the students.
The student will sell food/non-food items in a particular area and will prepare data of loss/profit. This enables them to understand how to do business. This project promotes self employment.
Career Projects enhances the knowledge and awareness about various Career options in the industry.. In this the student collect information about various careers and also educates others about the careers. They learn about the various trends in the job market and what are the different skills they need to develop in order to get employment.
