Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)
As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment, K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Mumbai has constituted the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in accordance with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 & University Grant Commission (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women employee and students in higher educational institutions) Regulation, 2015
Objective
The ICC has been established to prevent, prohibit, and redress incidents of sexual harassment and to foster a secure workplace for all employees, students, and staff irrespective of gender.
Scope
The ICC addresses complaints of sexual harassment from:
- Teaching and non-teaching staff
- Students (undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral)
- Contractual and outsourced staff
- Visitors and stakeholders engaged with the college
Functions of the ICC:
- To receive and redress complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace.
- To create awareness about gender sensitivity and workplace conduct through seminars, workshops, and orientation sessions.
- To ensure fair and confidential inquiry procedures in handling complaints.
- To recommend appropriate action based on the inquiry report.
Definition of Sexual Harassment
As per the Act, sexual harassment includes any one or more of the following unwelcome acts or behavior:
- Physical contact and advances
- Demand or request for sexual favors
- Making sexually colored remarks
- Showing pornography
- Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature

Confidentiality
All proceedings of the ICC are strictly confidential. Retaliation against complainants or witnesses is prohibited and will be taken seriously.
Reporting a Complaint
Complaints may be reported in writing or via email to the ICC. Students or staff can also reach out to any ICC member directly.
All complaints must be made within three months from the date of the incident (extendable under certain circumstances).
