Bachelor of Arts | B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Psychology is a 120 credits 3-years course. Students are made well versed with various sub fields Psychology. In a span of three years, with six semesters, emphasis is on preparing sound foundation of the course, develop research aptitude and equip them with necessary knowledge and skills to pursue Psychology in the future.

PsyClub – Life is Beautiful

Initially as a collaborative association named Psy-Phil, programmes were organised by department of Philosophy and Psychology. From last two years, Psychology programmes are conducted under PsyClub. It’s a students’ forum wherein, students proactively arrange, conduct different activities such as guest lectures, group discussions, workshops, film festivals, book exhibitions. Student reach out by making smart use of social media such as Instagram. PsyClub helps in polishing organization, presentation and technical skills.

First Year (Semester- I)

Understanding Fundamentals of Psychology – Introduction to Psychology, study of brain, knowing motivation, emotions, personality.

First Year (Semester- II)

Understanding Fundamentals of Psychology - Focus on thinking, intelligence, memory, health psychology.

Second Year (Semester- III)

To understand individual’s behavior in Social context – Understanding Self, social cognition, social perception, attitudes.

To study human development across the lifespan – introduction to lifespan development, study of human from conception till middle childhood stage – specifically physical and cognitive development.

Second Year (Semester- IV)

To understand prejudice, discrimination, social influence, groups & individuals, aggression and application of Social Psychology.

Study of lifespan from adolescence till late adulthood, with emphasis on personality and social development.

Third Year (Semester- V)

To understand the nature of psychological test & assessment, study of reliability, validity and descriptive statistics.

To understand basic concepts in Abnormal Psychology, the theories about Abnormality and understanding of different psychological disorders (symptoms, diagnosis, causes and treatment) such as -anxiety, obsessive compulsive and stressor related disorders, sexual disorders, development related disorders.

To understand HR functions such as selection, recruitment, appraisal and training.

To gain knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts and perspectives of cognitive psychology, perception, attention and reasoning & decision-making.

To conduct an experiment, data analysis (use of inferential statistics), report writing, administration, scoring and interpretation of a psychological test. Learning experimentation through computer.

Overview of treatment systems, to understand the nature, process, goals, techniques, ethical issues and major theories such as psychoanalysis, post and neo Freudian and psychodynamic therapy.

Third Year (Semester- VI)

To study about norms, test development, personality and intelligence testing, normal probability and correlation.

To understand different psychological disorders (symptoms, diagnosis, causes and treatment) such as depressive & bipolar disorders, schizophrenia spectrum & other psychotic disorders, personality disorders, aging related and cognitive disorders.

To understand psychological processes in workplace such as attitudes, emotions, motivation, leadership, study allied area - organizational health psychology.

To gain in-depth understanding of different aspects of memory – STM, LTM, and visual imagery.

To conduct an experiment, data analysis (use of inferential statistics), report writing, administration, scoring and interpretation of a psychological test. Design an experiment.

To understand treatment systems emphasizing emotions, thought and actions. For example, REBT, existential, Gestalt, Cognitive and behavior therapy.
