M.A. History Programme aims to develop an understanding of events, personalities, ideologies and trends in history and train the students in historical research. It is two years full time programme spread over four semesters. The programme opens up the world of regional, national and international history. A student completing M.A. can take up M.Phil. and Ph.D.

Pedagogy

The faculty undertakes lecture method. Use of audio-visual devices is done to facilitate the better understanding of the subject. Library session, group activity, workshops, interactive sessions and presentations are also used depending upon the curricula requirements. The programme encourages the students to undertake research on various themes.

Courses

First year (Semester I)

The course provides the understanding of different research methods. The learners get guidance about theory as well as practical aspects of research methodology.

The paper throws insight into the social life in Ancient India. It helps the students to understand the evolution of Indian society in Ancient times.

The course captures the journey of India’s struggle for freedom. It explores the different historiographies involved in the writing of the modern Indian history.

Modern Maharashtra History examines the trends, personalities and ideas that went into the making of the modern Maharashtra. It explains the reformist and nationalist standpoints that emerged at regional level.

First Year (Semester II)

Modern World history is fascinating journey of landmark events. The learner gets a view of the events and the personalities which shaped the modern world.

Medieval Indian History opens up the social, cultural and economic developments during the Sultanate and Mughal period. The learners are introduced to art, architecture and towns of the medieval era.

Travel and tourism is an exciting field. Students get an opportunity to have a feel of incredible India. Through the lenses of history the students study the different types of tourism.

Heroes in history hold attraction for all times. This paper brings out the personality and charisma standpoint and discusses its long-lasting impact on the pages of history.

Second Year (Semester- III)

The course is about the thought and influence of one of the influential personalities of the world history namely, Mahatma Gandhi. It facilitates the understanding of different aspects of Gandhian ideology.

The students will learn the non-political aspects of modern Indian history. The paper provides historical understanding of the society, economy and administration of India during the modern period.

The paper examines the history through the perspective of cinema. The learners will analyse the social realties as depicted in the Indian films.

The beautiful world of art & architecture is displayed in this course. Indian art & architecture through the ages has been examined in this course.

Religion has been an important and integral part of Indian society and culture. The paper introduces the learners the different religious traditions of India.

Second Year (Semester- IV)

History is influenced and guided by different ideologies and philosophies of different times and thinkers. The paper brings out the different standpoints of history and historiography.

TAsia occupies an important place in the twentieth century World history. The paper covers the history of China, Japan and West Asian countries. It helps the learners to grasp the influential events and forces in the Asian history.

Learners are expected to undertake Project on the historical theme. The project would be done under the guidance of research guide.
