Gandhian Whirlwind and Genesis of Indian English Novel: A Kaleidoscopic Perspective The father of the nation has not just contributed to the socio-political and nationalistic upsurge vis-à-vis the Indian freedom movement but has also deeply exercised the magical spell of his ideology on the contemporary Indian English Literature. His championing of the cause of the downtrodden strata of the society,preaching of the principles of Non-violence and Satyagraha held him in high spirit amongst the upcoming Indian English writers. It resulted in the sudden flowering of the novel as a genre on the Indian English literary front. The contemporary Indian English novelists gave vent to the voices of the oppressed section of the society interspersed with Gandhian ideology. This research paper attempts to highlight the influence of Gandhian Ideology on the contemporary Indian English Novels. The paper also endeavours to reiterate the relevance of Gandhian Whirlwind vis-à-vis contemporary Indian English Literature. It also illuminates the fact that Gandhiji has emerged as the most powerful and influential figure with his timeless principles inspiring the contemporary Indian English writers to undertake the mission of social reform through their writing.
