  • Abstract

Indian cinema in the period following independence reflected the spirit of the nation. Filmmakers were also participants in the process of the newly emerged nation, though the entertainment was the major drive for the films. Raj Kapoor’s films have been often considered socialist in nature. The paper takes up the perspective that the Gandhian ideals were equally important guiding principles in Raj Kapoor’s cinema.
