- Abstract
Food and life go together. Food which is physical or chemical object in actuality is subject to a variety of cultural influences. Religion is one of such influential factors in the discussion of the food philosophy. The present paper takes up two important religious traditions, Vedic and Jain and their impact upon the concept of food. Food plays a central role in explaining the Hindu conception of the cosmos and creation itself. In Jain tradition, Fasting was considered as a supreme spiritual practice. Both the traditions believed that the food has impact that is beyond the physical ones.
