The concept of Satya (truth) has often been discussed and analysed in the context of Mahatma Gandhi. However, the concept has ancient history. It can be largely traced to ancient religious traditions- Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. The paper explores these origins particularly those of Jain ones. It also attempts to explain this concept from Gandhian perspectives. Gandhian concept of truth seemed to be borrowed from varied origins, including the Jain ones. Yet Gandhian touch brought about different manifestations of this age-old concept.
