About Department

The Department of Accountancy was instituted in 1960. Presently, CA Ketaki Ketkar is the Head of the Department, specializing in the field of Accountancy, Audit & Taxation.

Departmental strength consists of 8 Assistant Professors, among them three are Practicing Chartered Accountant and one is Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

Our department strives to reach standard of excellence in teaching and imparting value education. Faculties motivate & guide students for higher / professional studies in India & abroad along with career counseling.

Faculties encourage students to seek practical training along with classroom learning and help students in finding them suitable opportunities for apprentice / article-ship / job placement with various professionals & in industry. The department guide students on various practical accounting aspects & industry related issues on audit & taxation.

The department offers ten compulsory papers and two optional papers for the commerce stream and two optional papers for the arts stream in the three-year graduation program of B.Com and B.A.

K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Vidyavihar Mumbai is premiere academic Institution with autonomous status having introduced the CBCGS (Choice Based credit and Grading System) to cater the needs of the learner with a focus on learner centric curriculum. Curriculum is revised after every three years after obtaining the inputs from the alumni, industrial experts, subject experts and the teachers. In tune with the University of Mumbai's curricular structure, UGC guidelines and NAAC expectations regular designing and development of quality- based curriculum with local, regional, national and international relevance leading to excellence. The revision of the elective , core, ability enhancement and the interdisciplinary courses in under graduate as well as as post graduate program is undertaken after every three years. CBCGS with its rich and varied palette of courses opens up newer avenues of learning beyond the opted discipline across the departments.

Activities

Accountancy department has started Accountancy Association from the academic year 2022-23 to organize co-curricular and extra-curricular activities by way of Guest lectures, workshops, seminars, visits and certificate courses. Accountancy Association is formed to encourage, support and promote interest amongst students in all aspects of accounting, finance and taxation. While the academic curriculum is focusing on theoretical aspects of any subject, there are instances where the students require other essential skills to build a successful career. The association aims to disseminate knowledge beyond classroom teaching by organising sessions by experts, certificate courses, visits, etc. Association will act as interface between professionals and practitioners from industry and the students who are keen to widen their horizon apart from theoretical knowledge. The association would strive for continuous professional development and growth of the students.
